I found this in my box of bits but there is no return spring from the "start" position.
What else used these I wonder...

That's good, saves me pulling the trailer to pieces! I'm not 100% yet but able to get out there now so was going to have a look shortly.

Just fit it, you'll be pleasantly surprised! :P

Looks like you might need new shear bolts for it but for now, normal ones will get you out of a hole. Might have to dangle the old key near it though to overcome the immobiliser - perhaps tape the old key inside the nacelle/cowl. :D

PS - if you haven't already guessed, the return spring from position 3/start is built in to the switch, held on the back by 2 tiny screws. :D :D
Cheers,
Dave

Ah so it's not broken? In the current state it doesn't spring back from "start".
Are you saying that the return function is driven by the cam you can't see on the housing on the LHS?

The "arm" is more of a spindle (looks a bit like a flat bladed screwdriver) that slots into the starter switch (or if you prefer, ignition switch) that goes on the back of it (the LHS in your pic) and is held on with two small screws. Can't find the pic of the switch, that's just the steerling lock you have there and would in fact be all that i could h have helped with.
Not that it matters as the actual ignition/starter switch is still ok - just the lock barrel that's FUBAR because of the broken key.

Dave

Tried for one from Best of British, it was a complete car set so more than I needed so ended up ordering a 2nd hand one from Lithuania! There is damage to the one in my box of bits so I hope this one will be OK.

Lithuanian lock now fitted to TBT by locksmith and car will now start!
It's only been over a month!
Fairly reasonable fee of £60 to come out and exchange it.

Excellent!

Not fun to have the car standing for a long time during the season though but you still have a long time of Summer left. I had mine in the garage almost all last season because of a gearbox swap and some other stuff. It ended up with me buying a second pile of junk... :D

At long last, i've found the little cover that goes on the end of the pod the Climate Pack sits in, three-ish inches long by about an inch wide, with two clips poking out the bit you don't see to clip into the trim.

Drop me a PM with your address and i'll poop it in the post. :D

TGM has developed an ABS light just after the OSR wheel bearing change. Light would come on just after you started moving. I took the wheel off, cleaned up the teeth on the reaction ring and wiped the sensor. Blooming light is on all the time now...
I'll have to look for the plug to short out the link to count flashes, but I'm sure it's the OSR. Are sensors common to many other types?

Try removing fuse "S" for a few minutes before condemning the sensor. Refit it and take it for a drive, it's possible the ABS ECU has a stored fault and is now throwing it up.

Image

If it does turn out to be the sensor, these are the same but you need to change the plug on the end :

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ABS-Sensor-F ... 3202894244

Good luck getting the old one out, they have a tendency to rust in, not only on the rear of 800s but on the front knuckle of Volvos and also Mk3 Cavaliers.

I suspect if the sensor is duff, it is down to some rough handling when the wheel bearing was changed, possibly transfer of shock waves as the bearing was removed and/or refitted. Try resetting the fault code memory first by removing fuse "S" though. :D

Dave

Just re-read all this, it could also be one of the front sensors or the rear one isn't plugged in correctly. I'll try and find the relevant page for the brake light switch plug and which pins to link out so you can count the flashes.

Worth checking in the boot area behind the trim for the ABS sensor plug to ensure it is plugged in correctly.
Cheers,
Dave

After doing the fuse removal, it now goes out but comes back on a few mins after starting but not moving. Must check my box of bits for a sensor or buy the one above as advised.
Oh and the trim bit is too small. For one without air con possibly. I'll take another pic.
Not my day...

A few minutes or a few seconds? If it really is minutes, find a 1200 Ohm resistor and locate the relevant senor plug in the boot, disconnect the plug and insert the resistor across the pins and reconnect the plug.

Pull the fuse (easiest to do it before you start adding the rsistor) and refit it, start the car and see if the light stays out. If it stays out with the engine running but not moving, it's that sensor. If it comes on at about 8km/h or 5mph, that is just added proof or the indication that another sensor isn't pulsing although ok otherwise - likely to be dirty in other words.

That bit of trim fitted that exact car 3 years ago unless the owner was mistaken. He gave it back to me after checking it as he intended to do something that needed the dash removed (can't remember what but a DAB radio rings a bell) and asked me to keep it safe for him. I offered it to him when he was about to sell the car and he forgot to take it, it's been skulking around here ever since.
There is the possibility of course we are talking about two different pices of trim but to the best of my knowledge, they're all the same size, whether Mk1 or 2, aircon or not.
Cheers,
Dave
