But he did say a lot that these cars are much better than people give them credit for. So that is something.

Loads. He had a spirited attempt to rescue a Mk1 800 a few months ago, spending out £500 to get it through an MOT (successfully!) before realising the roof was absolutely rotten and beyond help.scoobyh123 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 21, 2019 7:24 pm

I remember the white 8v carb engined one he had Adrian, i actually meant in general as the impression i got from the videos on the white one was that he had little previous knowledge before the white one and indeed refers to it in the test of Marcs while expressing surprise (shock?) at just how quick Marcs is by comparison.
Doing a search on YouTube for 827 reviews, apart from the "commercial" reviews such as Top Gear etc and the few owners who have done a "walk-around" or similar, i only came across one other review for the 827 :

I feel it's a more impartial review, spend 20 minutes and watch it, see what you think!

You're welcome Henrik - only just discovered her on YouTube, more pleasing to the ey than HubNut and knows her stuff, whether by research or experience or a combination of both. Seems to be more impartial than others too.

Possibly, it went through several hands in a short space.
Alex had it before me, the Steven in Scotland after. Then Fraser? I forget now.
It caused a bit of trouble in the past.
Here's a random pic from when I had it

Re: 1989 Rover 827 Vitesse automatic
Was it unreliable or something? Or did it just go through the "wrong" hands that maybe bought it for the right reasons then sold it on fairly quickly?

Re: 1989 Rover 827 Vitesse automatic
I have some news. I am changing carrier! After years of working in the shipping industry, I will now finally switch over to the car sector. I will work with a company that restores damaged cars. I will start in November.
Finally did a job on my 827 Vitesse that I always wanted to tackle.
The roof lining was sagging in places and the foam beneath the cloth was deteriorating fast. Also when you touched the headlining, your imprint would stay in the cloth.
I ordered new fabric that already had the foam behind it as wel as a plastic foil so that in the event of leakage, the cloth is not damaged. https://www.schuimrubberbetaalbaar.nl/a ... breed.html
First we removed everything so that the headlining could come down. I contacted a garage in the Netherlands that recently did the roof lining on a silver 827 Vitesse. They gave lots of things to look out for. Excellent!
One of the benefits of a Fastback, you can easily remove the headlining.
THe cloth could be removed by pulling with two fingers. Almost nothing holding it up. The old foam was hoovered of and the residue glue was removed with thinner.
New material with spray glue.
Applied it first on the centre line and worked our way out to the more difficult sides. My mate did it recently on his Rover BRM so he had some experience!
Ready for fitting!
I also replaced the glass panel of the sunroof. As you guys and girls know, the 800 glass panel has a black steel bar on the bottom of the class that guides the glass when it moves along the roof. This bar was rusty and almost crusty on my original one.
I bought a new one from Mr. Hunter and that was in great condition. Thanks again! Before it fitted the glass, I sprayed tectyl wax in the steel bar to ensure it stays rust free.
Job done!
Before we refitted the headlining is coated all the seems with tectyl wax to make sure it all lasts as long as possible.
When everything was fitted it all looked fresh again! I changed out the light bulbs so that works again too.
During all this I noticed some small rust blisters on the body of the inner roof. Before I did some work on this and removed as much as I saw. But I just seem to have missed these.
Anyway, sanded them down, and applied rust converter:
The next day, I removed the exes rust converter and applied zinc spray:
To be followed with primer:
Colour:
And clear coat to seal it all of:
Another thing I wanted to fix/improve was a tear in the leather of the front driver's seat. The tear was getting bigger and bigger. In the past, when the tear was still small, I tried to close it with fast drying glue but that was a mistake. That type of glue dries up much to hard.
First I cut out the edges that became hard because of the glue so that I had fresh material to work with. I went to a shoe restorer for new patches of leather to glue behind the tear. I could only choose black. He gave me the advice not to use quick drying glue. He gave me glue he uses for shoes that is strong and stays soft so the leather can move.
Patch glued in place:
Well it was closed of but not quite the right colour I think.
As you know, behind the centre arm rest of the back seat there is a patch of skai. I cut of a small strip of the bottom that is out of sight to fill in the depth difference and improve the colour difference.
First I made a template out of paper and then cut it out of the skai material:
Skai glued in place:
During this, I noticed that the backrest of the driver's seat had a tear in it.
Ook de rugleuning van de bestuurdersstoel had een scheurtje gekregen.
Luckely I had some skai material left.
Not perfect but contained for now.
I know I must have the seats properly restored one day but for know I just keep it as good as I can. I also want to learn how to restore it for the future. I can only improve it.

Great work Marc, with that headlining fixed it must feel like a new car when you get in and look up.

Re: 1989 Rover 827 Vitesse automatic
Great work as usual Marc! You'll have to check the colour to get the right one but this stuff works well :
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Leather-Viny ... 2424262898
It's a bit scary sanding the leather before applying but it works well. There are two other products you'll need, one is the cleaner (a special cleaner so the dye takes) and a sealer/finsher but i'm sure you'll find them from that listing.
If you do all the seats in the right colour (Medium Brown looks about right to me) then it will help to hide your repairs and give the whole interior a "lift".
I think that's the colour of the MK1 Beige trim, you can use it on plastics as well so you could refurbish everything.

Re: 1989 Rover 827 Vitesse automatic
@ 820Vitesse: Thank you! Yes it does feel like that. Looks nice and fresh again.
@ Scoobyh123: Thanks mate! I did paint the steering wheel years ago so I know a bit the feeling when you sand it down haha.
Thank you for the help and information. I was already looking at products. I first want to fill up the cracks with leather filler and then sand everything, clean (I used thinner for my steering wheel) and repaint it. It will be a lot better than I agree.
I will use your information!
Thanks!

Re: 1989 Rover 827 Vitesse automatic
This weekend, there was a big indoor car event in the Netherlands. It was in the WTC expo hall in Leeuwarden.
THe Rover Owners Club Holland was also invited and had the biggest stand on the show. The club wanted younger cars on the stand along with the older generation which made the stand appreciated by many. After all the work I did on my 827 Vitesse I decided to give the honors to him.
Underway crossing the Afsluitdijk.
Even though the weather was not that bad, I gave the wheels and sides a hose down and the rest of the car a wipe down.
My Vitesse was in good company! Along side my mates 220 Coupe:
Very nice Rover 75 V8:
The older generation. Rover P2, P5 and two P6's:
Ford Mustang fastback:
Buick Station Wagon!:
Nice Corvette:
Lincoln ''Bigger is better!'':
Oh yes! '59 Cadillac Deville:
Ford Torino Starsky & Hutch!:
Chevrolet Suburban C10 Dutch Police edition that was in service:
Lovely old Opel:
BMW Fünfers:
My pride and joy looking better and better I think :
Now with better light. Still looks nice and with working lights in place. :

Re: 1989 Rover 827 Vitesse automatic
Great pics there Marc! Nice to see some of the older stuff there too, especially the Buick wagon (does it have the famous 215ci/3528cc V8 in it?) and the Opel Kapitan.
Were there any other 800s there or just yours?
