Update:
TB2 just failed MOT on a bit of welding on sill ( I have some in stock, but it's just a little bit) headlamp aim and CO. Now it had a new cat last year and is measuring 72 to 83 ppm on the HC but high CO. 1.78% 1st time and 0.61% 2nd time. Idle test showed 0.93% so it is not a million miles out. Any tips on adjustment, or is it an * "Italian Tune" before a retest?

*Damn good thrashing before retest.
Oil and filter change, substitute 0.5L of engine oil for Carlube ATF-U, new air filter and plugs (if it hasn't already), add 50ml ATF-U to the fuel tank if half full or 100ml if completely full,, clean the throttle body including where the stepper motor lives then take it for an Italian Tune-Up followed by another immediately before the test so it goes in with a stinking hot cat. :D
Cheers,
Dave

Is this an 820?

All emissions issues I had with them were lambda/cat related.

Why did it have a new car before?

To sort the emissions last year. There's no cat on the Green Machine, removed as part of the LPG conversion/fitting of the stainless exhaust.

They're both 820s so the other usual stuff for those will apply to Thunderbird as listed in my post above. Could also be the CTS on its way out but given how sensitive the ECUs are to the CTS, if it's working at the moment i'd say don't change it.
Lack of use can also make cats lazy i've found, generally need a good thrashing for a few days before the test to burn off contaminants so it can work properly.
Cheers,
Dave

Cheers. Air filter is new but I will change plugs and try the Alchemy too. I have some "fuel system reconditioner" which I will try as a plan B.
TB2 cat was new for last MOT due to emissions as Dave has noted. It was only about £60 so not the end of the world if it has become a service item.

TGM is due this week too for its MOT, so hope there are less issues with it.

Just remember to present it running on gas, it changes over after a very short time (about 40 seconds if memory serves) after start-up on a hot engine so shouldn't be a problem in that area at least.

The cat shouldn't be a "service item", they should last about 100k on average, you could also try some Cataclean, just to help get rid of the contaminants in it.

Have you got a link to the fuel system reconditioner at all? If it's what i think it is then it might help but there could also be alternatives that are better/cheaper.
Cheers,
Dave

It was a gift from a fellow mad scientist who used to formulate products for a company called DAE.
He brought me a box of goodies a few years ago of samples of the company products. Sadly he passed away a few years ago. I'll dig it out tonight.

TGM has passed MOT. Advisory on CV boot and needed a small leak from the exhaust repairing - caused by the broken front engine mount allowing engine swing about a year ago.
Awaiting re-test of TB2.

TB2 now having to have another cat fitted to pass test. Despite new plugs, injector cleaner and an Italian tune up, it's still marginal. I have asked garage to put the new cat on for test and not to throw the old one out, and not to tighten the new one up too much! ;-)

I have put some ATF in the Engine Oil as recommended.

The additive has 2 Butoxy Ethanol in it.

Odd that it still needed a new cat, was it under warranty?

Don't think any warranty would hold as there is no guarantee that it wasn't poisoned by a misfire or hydrocarbons e.t.c. At £60 I'll happily take the hit and swap the old one back in keeping the new one for next years MOT.

Bit of a shame on the warranty thing, when you remove the new one to refit the old, smear the threads on the studs/bolts with copper grease, likewise the metal gaskets - makes it much easier for future dismantling! :D

TB2 now tested. Still just scraped through emissions though even with new cat.

Congrats on the pass Scott, hopefully the ATF will work its magic over the coming year and it'll fly through next year.

I've literally just returned from taking my Volvo for MoT and the emissions were 0.45% CO & 79 ppmHC - last year was 1%CO and similar HC, the only difference this year is it's had the ATF in for all of that time and it had come down from the previous year (although the CO was lower the previous year because the idle switch wasn't made properly) so it definitely helps with the emissions! :D
