Wow! Everything is as new or better! Is this maybe the best looking 800 out there? Very impressive work you are doing!

Steady on Henrik, you're going to upset a lot of folk with that kind of talk.

But surely it must be the most modified. Excellent stuff.

Thanks for the comments Dave, Adrian, Henrik and Mark.
Thanks Henrik, a huge compliment but it is so far from original not sure it deserves that title, it does have plenty of dents and scratches that do not show in the pictures. I plan to get the sun roof opening filled in and body straight and resprayed one day.

The exhaust rear sections and mounts are finished.

Image

Image

Car still up on stands when I took this but it looks something like this from above.

Image

For the more sensible rear silencer I tacked together a selection of bends and short straights to get round the fuel tank and rear suspension

Image

Test fit with new silencer

Image

Now fully welded and next to the optional side exit

Image

Other news, adjustable rear turrets are fitted, replaced a worn rose joint on the rear ARB, adjusted the ride height a little lower all round, adjusted the front and rear toe, still need to rig something up to check overall alignment or get it on a laser aligner for camber and caster checks.

Image

I started the car for the first time in 9 months, with the side exit fitted it is much much to loud, sounds great but the car is not fast enough to justify that much noise. So before putting the car back on its wheels I swapped it for the Vibrant rear silencer, still noisy enough but more appropriate and probably still over track day noise limits.

My goodness. Looked at all the work with open mouth. Like the rear silencer a lot. ;)

Haha thanks Marc, thanks Dave. I really appreciate your comments and apologise for the very late reply. A short internet break turned into a few months but work has continued on the car.

Image

I changed the 4 point harnesses to 6 point by adding crutch belts. The floors needed strengthening for 2 extra harness mounts each side so after some head scratching it was either construct two complicated box sections to weld inside the car or something under the floor.
I opted for under the floor for simplicity but they have to be removable for fuel pipe access.

and zinc plated for protection.

While the seats were out it was also a good opportunity to improve the seat mounting points.
These little captive nut inserts are to go inside the front seat mount crossmember. As well as adding strength they will save me a lot of time balancing a nut and washer on the tip of a finger while hanging over the door bars holding the seat and trying to thread a bolt.

Sat on top in the pictures these will go inside the crossmember

More excellent work there Jim! A little confused about the seat mounts, they look very similar to the OE seat mounts or am i missing something?
Cheers,
Dave

Thanks Dave, the original seat rails bolt into a double skinned captive nut at the front of the box section but for my bucket seat mounts I had to drill and bolt down through the top of the single skin area of box section as pictured. Now with these little plates added it should be as strong as the original factory design, hope that makes sense.

Thought it would be along those lines JIm, thanks! The do look more substantial than the original mounts but then the original mounts weren't designed for hammering round Castle Coombe, Thruxton, Brands Hatch or wherever you take it. :D

Dave

A battery isolator switch has been on the to do list for a long time so several templates and many changed plans later I decided next to the front passenger seat was the best location.
It needs to be very secure so I used 6mm aluminium plate.

Image

Much sawing and filing later I had the basic panel

Image

Image

To mount the panel I fitted longer bolts to the gear linkage rear mount

Image

Image

Test fit with a slight bend to the panel and switch installed

Image

Image

While re-routing the battery cable I noticed some old wiring needed tidying which led from one thing to another then before I knew it the dash was out, it currently looks like this while I sort out the wiring mess I made.

More excellent work Jim! Are you using the resistor across the isolator terminals to provide memory feeds? If so i'd suggest fitting a fuse in series with it, just a small one of about 10-15A so if anything goes wrong you have that extra bit of protection.
Cheers,
Dave

Thanks Dave, not sure if I will need the extra wiring it is just fitted for safety in the event of a smash.
