Great work Simon.
There seems to be a small majority in favour of forming the "Rover 800 Owners Club".
Alternatively, if it proves too much hassle we could see if we can get insurance benefits etc. for our informal group, perhaps with a small membership fee (£3-5 per year) to cover expenses.

Having been able to see responses prior to closing the survey I did not want to voice any opinions until everyone has had a chance to mull over the findings.
The one thing that I would like to add to the pot is that I went to see Ron at Best of British (the reason is intended for another thread which I will post later) and I mentioned to him about us forming a club and the possiblility of club members obtaining a discount on parts. He said this is something he would be happy to dicuss and support. So this would seem to be a possibility.

Only if you want to make it a limited company, which is unneccessary IMHO due to the small size and thus likely income.
A Club bank account will need to be opened and a Treasurer and Secretary appointed(The Secretary is in fact the only legal requirement for a small club.)
Just leapt to mind-did anyone ask permission to use the Rover logo in the new stickers? Its owned by TATA I believe? Not sure if they will be too bothered about Copyright, but some companies are!

Good point that, my dad's bike club have gone through that over the BMW logo. They're new paperwork actully doesn't feature it. They have 1000s of members as well.
BMW wanted something like £80K to use the logo I think.

This was something I wondered about. A few years ago a supplier, in S.London, of 2nd hand Rovers parts was stopped using the Rover logoJohn W wrote: Just leapt to mind-did anyone ask permission to use the Rover logo in the new stickers? Just don't rattle their cage. And if they want to make trouble all they legally can do is forbid you to use it any longer. So just make sure you have enough stickers for the rest of your life.
It's a hobby, not a business.

................. and therefore not competition to TATA who are not building Rovers anyway. It would be common sense to say it does no-one any harm and loads of people some good but who said there was ever any common sense int he car industry? The Flying Dutchman wrote: It's a hobby, not a business.

Like I suggested here:
To me this would seem to be the easiest and most stress free route to take, and as there are no membership fees there is very little chance of a company complaining much about useage of the logo.MikeMedford wrote: Here is what I propose:
We become an owners club.
Site remains as it is with the exception of a description change to mention owners club.
No membership fee, open to anyone to join.
So basically remain the same but with a few suggestions:
Recruit a couple of volunteers to take charge or arranging meets, to allow better organization.
These volunteers would work along side the mod and admin team and when upcoming events are announced or coming near they put together a brief announcement and post it on the forum, the same announcement can then be mass mailed by an admin so everyone will be notified.
In addition, instead of a newsletter with random crap in it, quarterly or bi-annually a mass mail could be sent out listing any meets that are coming up in that period.
Stickers or any other product for endorsing the club to be purchased as a group buy as and when needed to keep costs down.
To me this would be the simplest route and will satisfy both camps for and against becoming a club.
